Im reading Malled by Caitlin Kelly, and my visits to a shopping mall will never quite be the same. Kellys book recounts her two year part time job at a North Face store north of New York City, and gives readers her insight into who works in retail, what conditions they face, and how shoppers can be very self-absorbed and frankly rude. Kellys interviews with retailers who do focus on making retail jobs a career were interesting; they made the case that providing a good work environment and better wages for retail workers, and a better retail experience, is good business.
