I attended a fascinating event last night at American University on the role and legacy of First Ladies, organized by Anita McBride, Chief of Staff to Laura Bush.
I was there for two stellar panels where staff for First Ladies Rosalyn Carter, Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush and Michele Obama spoke. They were funny, candid and gave us all insights into their bosses outlook on her role, as well as funny stories about theit time in the White House. I was struck by the fact that regardless of political party of ideology the women in that role all faced similar challenges about their role, their choice of issues and how they were perceived by the public.
