Haitian women are playing a critical role in Haitis recovery, and Women in Production 2011 showcased their talents and more importantly, their products. Over 50 women artisans, designers, associations and cooperatives from throughout Haiti were featured at the Miami Convention Center June 25 and 26 to promote trade and economic development. This was underscored by the presence of the First Lady of Haiti, Sophia Martelly at the ribbon cutting. I was so happy to be there to support the work of Femmes en Democratie, a group I have worked with over the years. It was wonderful to see so many great products and talented designers under one roof, and also to read the wonderful coverage in the Miami Herald the next day!

This is the first year Women in Production was held outside of Haiti; I am looking forward to next year and an even bigger trade fair.
