April 11 was Equal Pay Day. Each year, Equal Pay Day reflects how far into the current year women must work to match what men earned in the previous year. While women have come far, there is still far to go. When the Equal Pay Act was enacted in 1963, women earned 59 cents for every dollar earned by men. Today, even though women are more likely than men to attend and graduate from college, women earn an average of only about 77 cents for every dollar a man earns. This, Equal Pay Day reflects that women must work 101 days more to catch up with what men earn. This isnt just a womans issue it is an issue for families across the country.
